brandy, she's a fine girl... most fellow music geeks I know got very hot 'n bothered by "what about us?" I even waxed rhapsodic about it for freaky trigger's pop music focus group vi:
"On which Rodney Jerkins (and where has he been?) makes like Timbaland to Brandy's Aaliyah, creating some seriously future-shit machine-driven R&B. Almost, but not quite, like if Gary Numan himself produced the Sugababes. 7 [out of 10]"
and it is fine stuff, though I wouldn't rate it as highly now as I did then. but the brandy song that really works me is her recent album's title track, "full moon." I think it's another jerkins production (tho' I'm not certain), and it sounds like more typical (i.e. non-timbaland-aping) jerkins. all tinkly (like stars) keyboard melodies in the background, plush synth chords in the foreground, and a made-for-brandy melody (and lyrics) to be sung. the push-and-pull of the chorus, especially, grabs me each and every time - and the ending on "one of those nights," as the music drops out behind her, is marvelous. a little '97, yes, but so good.
