email from chris regarding this post:

Thomas,

Just a little note to talk about a couple of things. While I'll take all the praise I can get, the two articles mentioned, Bono and Romans 1, were both written by my best friend, and co-publisher of Fly Over, Mike. So, credit where credit is due.

Secondly,

I am not sure I (or Mike) would disagree with you all that much about homosexuality. I know you are gay (BTW: the coming out party comment about Indiana's win the other day made me spit coffee up cause I laughed so hard) and see the issue a little differently then us straight boring married guys, but Mike's post was specifically on a form of scripture interpretation that he disagreed with.

Sexuality, in all forms, is a hard issue for Christians to deal with and one that I personally think The Church (in general) focuses too much on. I had sex, more than once, before I got married, and that seems to be as condemned as other sins in the Bible. And, I thoughtfully read Andrew Sullivan's essay about being Catholic/Christian, and gay with an active sex life. Interesting stuff.

All this is to say: whether the Bible does/does not condemn homosexuality, it does not change the status of gay people as 1) human beings, with 2) all the rights and privileges of any citizen (You Might Be Surprised to Learn: I don't oppose same sex marriages. Constitutionally/Legally I don't think there is much to stand on to keep gay people from getting married if they want to), and 3) in any case, I try to approach most things in my life with humility knowing that I am nothing but a receipent of Grace that I did nothing to earn and fail to live up to everyday, and 4) lastly, Love Your Neighbor as You Would Love Yourself is still in effect.

Keep on Rollin'
Chris Cotner

very nice, chris. thank you.
