matchbox 20, of all fucking bands, have made a good lil' nugget of a rock-disco single (think the stones' "miss you"). it's called "disease." it starts with a slightly strangulated guitar, but then segues into a cymbal-crack disco groove (along with some unfortunate quasi-bon jovi "it's my life" vocodered bass). the lyrics were cowritten by lyricist-to-the-stars frontman rob thomas with mick jagger (who really has better things to do, doesn't he? no? alright then), and are predictably crap. but the rhythm nearly swings. I'd bet this would sound smashing at a rollerrink. just picture the disco balls, the multicolored swirly lights, and the propulsion of "disease" reverberating through the place. not too damn bad.
