Blondie are back, with the forthcoming album The Curse of Blondie (great title) and its lead single, "Good Boys." I don't like it. Not that it's bad, but it doesn't sound that much like Blondie, save for some slashy guitar in the bridge. Debbie's vox are processed enough to make it not really sound like her - and if you can't tell it's Debbie Harry singing, what's the fucking point, eh? I spun it twice before kicking it out of the playlist.
Speaking of, my "best of 2003" Winamp playlist continues to grow, expand, get cut, et cetera. I've added two mixes to it, the Aaron Hedges Oppression Is (Not) Expression mix I got pointed to by John, and a Miss Kittin mix she posted (all you have to do is register, without giving any obtrusive info) at misskittin.net, a superb mix of minimal techno, inevitable electroclash, some yummy house, and even Depeche Mode! Some notes on the non-'03 songs making the list:
+Texas' "Inner Smile" is on the Bend It Like Beckham soundtrack, and is practically the flick's theme. Sheer joy.
+Though not on the Lost in Translation soundtrack, "Fuck the Pain Away" by Peaches is in the film, so I wanted to hear it again. "They're taking a dance class."
+"Once Upon a Daydream" is a Police discovery ("Synchronicity II" b-side) via Gaz, from the latest volume of his Grand Theft Audio comp series.
+From 1979 comes Elton's "Are You Ready For Love," rereleased by Fatboy's Southern Fried label on the other side of the pond, and a recent (and so deserved) U.K. #1 single.
+Of course, there are the usual songs from late-2002 albums which didn't hit me till this year, or last year's imports which for some reason I didn't get until they reached these shores (in the latter category, Liam Lynch's "United States of Whatever," which I believe was on Sifl & Olly back in 1998 or something). What's a year other than a semi-arbitrary designation, anyway? My "best of 2003" list is stuff that I've heard for the first time(ish) and loved in 2003, simply put.
