There's no fucking question that Dizzee Rascal is music's rookie of the year. "I Luv U" was the first salvo, at 2002's bare end (thanks to Simon for alerting most of the music blogworld to its brilliance, which I'm not sure we were ready for, unleashed). "Fix Up Look Sharp," the first "official" single from Boy In Da Corner, usurped Billy Squier and turned his "Big Beat" into a truly BIG beat. He's a minimalist, his words provoke shock and awe (and sometimes inane reactions - he is an MC, after all, it ain't all gravy). He's still a fucking teenager, and he won the fucking Mercury Prize! Yeah, he could be Tricky and end up squandering, to a point, his expansive, substantial gifts. But I'll still put my money on him; Boy In Da Corner is just as important as (and destined to be even more influential than) Maxinquaye.
