Interesting article at ABCNews.com on the 20th anniversary of Hands Across America, one of the more bizarre charity events (on a large, celeb-laden scale, at least) in U.S. history. I remember it very vividly, because along with some other from my church youth group, I took part in it myself. We didn't get any celebrities in our span of rural north-central Indiana, though; it was just some dorky kids and our Moms, and boy, was it uncool.

Comments:
I remember this masterpiece of kitsch too vividly: it was my 6th grade end-of-year theme song.

See that man over there
He's my brutha!
When he laughs I LAUGH
When he cries I CRY.
